Academic Links
Did you know that you can access OAA practice tests on the internet? Go to: http://www.ode.state.oh.us

There are practice tests for all testing subjects for grades 3-5. This is a good way to help familiarize your child with the tests and their formats. (Tests are samples in OAA format. They will not be the same tests that are administered in the Spring of 2012.)

www.firstinmath.com - every student at West Mound has his/her own username and password The V.I.P. (Very Important Player) of the Day earns the V.I.P. pass to wear all day at school when he/she has earned the most digital stickers for the previous day. ALL WEST MOUND STUDENTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO USE THIS WEBSITE DAILY.

Academic Support
Our teachers work with selected 3rd 4th and 5th grade students in OAA preparation in reading and math in January - April after school.
West Mound is part of the Briggs Feeder Pattern. West Mound will focus on increasing literacy (reading, writing, listening, speaking) at all grade levels across the curriculum through rigorous instruction that provides daily opportunities to collaborate and problem solve using critical thinking skills and shows written visual evidence of thinking.

West Mound offers a strong academic program. There is an uninterrupted reading/language arts block with an additional 30 minutes for writing. Students receive sixty minutes daily of highly focused math instruction. Everyone is actively engaged in the educational process. All learners are motivated to think critically, creatively, collaboratively and independently.

Reading, writing, mathematics, science, social studies, art, music, health, and physical education. All areas of the curriculum are aligned to state standards. West Mound's staff strives to provide instruction geared to each child’s level. We focus on academic achievement while instilling the joy of learning in our students. We have math/science specialist teachers for grades 4 and 5 and K-3 reading tutors.
